What’s the big deal about Easter? Here’s what Gen Zs in Malaysia think.

Christians all over celebrate Easter annually to rejoice in the belief that Jesus sacrificed His life for us on the cross, died and after three days, came back to life and ascended to Heaven.

That miraculous act of coming back to life means He now lives, but what does that mean for us – today?

With Easter just around the corner, we gathered some responses from young Malaysians regarding their thoughts on Jesus’ resurrection. We asked them what it signifies, if Jesus coming back to life even affects us at all. Here’s what they came up with.

“He is creating a pathway for all of us… to be able to reach life after death” – Isaac, 17

“In a way, when Jesus came back to life after his persecution, at face value, people would say it’s a miracle, to be able to come back after dreadful suffering and ultimately dying. But through this situation, it really does show or symbolize the authority of Jesus to be able to come back and conquer death in a way. For us, He is creating a pathway for all of us, sinners or not, to follow in his footsteps, to be able to reach life after death.”

“The symbol of how our sins are erased, giving us new hope” – Chloe, 21

“For me, Jesus coming back to life is necessary as it is the symbol of how our sins are erased from this world giving us a new hope in our lives. As death is the only punishment to sin, He died to pay for ours, and because He came back from the dead, we are able to live freely, away from sin.”

“It’s what makes the story complete” – Samuel, 15

“I think the deal with Easter for me is that it’s a meaningful celebration and a wonderful time to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice for us. It matters that Jesus came back to life because that’s the cherry on top of everything. It’s what makes the story complete and gives Easter significance.”

“An important part to prevent us from taking advantage of His death” – Valerie, 18

“One of the main reasons why Jesus had to resurrect was to strike the fear of God in us. If Jesus did not rise again, we may think that since Jesus has already died for our sins, we can continue to sin again in our daily lives, which isn’t the case. It was an important part for Jesus to rise from the dead to prevent us from taking advantage of Jesus’ death for our sake.”

“After He came back to life, death meant a new beginning” – Jolin, 19

“It does matter that Jesus came back to life because ultimately He defeated death. Before that, death may be an end. But after He came back to life, death meant a new beginning.”

What does Easter mean to you? There is no better time than to share Jesus with your friends. Tell them why Jesus being alive makes all the difference and how that is important for you.
